What's the best bed frame for me?

Now that’s really opening a can of worms. The bed frame serves as the main support system for your mattress (like the foundations of a house), so you want to choose the right one for your situation.

To help, we've put together a few tips to help you choose your perfect bed:

1. Consider your bedroom size: The amount of space you have to work with is important. Generally allow about 1m around the sides and end of your bed frame so you can freely walk around your bedroom. Remember to allow a little more for the dimensions of the bed frame as it will be slightly larger (in width and length) than the actual mattress.

2. Consider your current mattress size: If you love curling up in your current mattress and plan to keep it, then this will dictate your bed frame size. Or perhaps you want the full transformation and intend to replace your mattress and bed frame with a completely new bed and frame.

3. What style of bed frame do you like? Bed frames are available in a variety of styles, including timber, metal and upholstered timber frames (offering modern, contemporary, or classic style options). Plus, you may also consider a bed base (ensemble) with a matching headboard, sides and foot. This gives you the added options of fabric colours and textures.

4. And it’s not all about looks either. Consider the functionality and practicality with a storage bed option (ideal for rooms with limited space). Many bed frame models offer gas-lift or drawer storage (built-in drawers) below the mattress and even storage in the bed head, providing valuable extra storage.

5. Height of the bed frame: Often overlooked, the height of the bed frame’s side rails combined with the height of a mattress could make your bed a little too high – you don’t want to be using a step ladder to dive into bed.
