Most people love the idea of sharing their homes with friends and family and creating a comfortable place for people to stay. According to Better Homes and Gardens, whether you have a dedicated guest retreat or a sofa bed in the living room, there are things you can do to make your guests feel welcome.

The first thing to look at is bedding. If you are lucky enough to have a spare bedroom, a good idea is to opt for a medium support mattress as opting for one that is too soft could cause sleeping problems for your guests. It is also nice to provide your guests with one firmer pillow and one softer pillow each. For sheets, try to select the highest thread count you can afford.

When your guests are staying more than a night, they may wish to hang some clothes up. Clear some space in the wardrobe and if you really want to spoil them, have fluffy white robes hanging in the cupboard. If you don’t have a wardrobe, a few pretty wall hangers would be appreciated and can add detail to a room. A full length mirror is also nice.

Ensure your guests are arriving to a clean space. Wash the linens, dust the surfaces and light a scented candle shortly before their arrival.

For guests wanting a chance to relax, ensure you have a good reading lamp by the side of the bed and supply a few magazines or books you think may be of interest to them.
